The price of a rug clean is calculated per square metre, but two rugs of the same size can get different quotes. Here's why, so you can understand a quote before accepting it.
1. Surface area
This is the starting point: length × width. Measure the rug in centimetres, not including the fringes. A 200 × 300 cm rug is 6 m².
2. Material
Wool on cotton is the most common and the simplest to wash. Silk needs a particular soap, cooler water, slow drying and more handling: it costs more per square metre. Kilims, which are thin and prone to distortion, also need particular attention.
3. General condition
A rug that is merely dusty and a rug greyed by years of foot traffic don't need the same number of washes. A very dirty rug may need two passes.
4. Stains and odours
Wine, coffee, grease, pet urine, moths, damp: each case may need localised treatment before or after washing. These treatments are priced separately on the quote, with an honest indication of what will come out and what may remain.
5. Fringes and small repairs
Frayed fringes or an open selvedge have to be repaired before washing, otherwise the water makes the damage worse. These are restoration items, listed separately.
6. Transport
Collection and return to your home: distance and rug size are part of the quote. We agree the transport with you.
How to get a fair quote
Send a photo of the whole rug, a photo of the back, a photo of any damaged or stained areas, and the dimensions. With that, a serious workshop gives you a firm price, before you commit to anything. Be wary of any price given without seeing the rug, whether it sounds high or low.
